Formula 1 is making supermarket fridges and freezer more energy efficient

LONDON - Fridges and freezers in supermarket will become a lot more energy efficient thanks to a special new technique devised by the Williams Advanced Engineering team - the team behind the Formula 1 success, reports the Financial Times.
Special strips will prevent the cool air from leaving the fridge or freezer. The engineers of the Formula 1 team have joined forces with Aerofoil Energy and created special strips that click to each shelf inside the fridge; redirecting the cold air that is pumped in from above and pushing it back inside, just like the spoiler on a fancy race car.
These strips, named aerofoils, will ensure the cool air stays where it should and doesn't fill the aisles. According to Williams, supermarkets should be able to save 10 to 32 percent on their energy bills with this innovative new trick.
